Asier Villalibre was born in the fabled Basque city of Gernika and joined Lezama in 2011 when he was 13 years old. Early on he showed signs of promise and the innate ability to score goals, while also being a reserved and quiet young man. While working his way through the youth system he also competed with Spain’s U17, U18, and U19 teams. In 2014 he joined feeder club CD Basconia and scored 26 goals in his first season which, saw him immediately promoted to Bilbao Athletic where he continued to play at a high level. He made his first team debut on 4 December, 2016 due to injuries in the team and shown flashes of potential. However, once the squad was healthy it was clear that Villalibre would need to leave on loan in order to keep playing regular minutes in order to continue his development. He has since spent time on loan with Numancia, Real Valladolid, and Lorca FC before returning to Bilbao Athletic where he rediscovered his best form, scoring 23 goals in 38 appearances.
Asier Villalibre is under contract through 2023 and his deal contains a €50 million release clause.
