Ander Capa was born and raised in the Basque city of Portugalete and became an Athletic fan at a young age. He joined famous youth academy, Danok Bat, when he was a child and made the switch to Lezama in 2002 when he was just 10 years old. After five years with Athletic he left to join Eibar’s academy where he eventually worked his way all the way up to the first team in 2012. Capa played a big role for Eibar over his six years with the senior squad and a major factor in the club’s historic rise from the Segunda B to the Primera. On 1 September, 2017 Athletic announced that they had signed Capa from Eibar for €3 million. The right-back had a clause in his contract that allowed him to be sold to Athletic for a smaller fee and the Lions agreed to let him finish the year at Eibar. On 25 May, 2018 he was officially presented as an Athletic Club player and said during his press conference that returning to Athletic meant that he was coming home.
Ander Capa is under contract through 2022 and his deal contains a €50 million release clause.
