Iago Herrerín was born in Bilbao and spent time at Sestao River and Danok Bat before joining Lezama 2005 when he was 17 years old. In two years he earned promotion to Bilbao Athletic and would go on to feature in 87 games for the reserve side but couldn’t find a way to break into the first team. He left in 2010 to sign with Atletico Madrid B but returned to Athletic in 2012 when he signed a contract for two years. His first year back was spent on loan at Numancia where he quickly showed that he could have a future at the San Mamés. Since then Herrerín has featured as Athletic’s cup keeper and backup in La Liga.
Iago Herrerín is under contract through 2021 and his deal contains a €50 million release clause.
