Yeray Injured In Friendly Loss To Sevilla
Athletic’s two friendlies against Sevilla on Friday presented the team with a unique opportunity. After a truncated preseason the Lions benefited from playing against a strong opponent in the midst of a two-week break. Several players that missed most of the summer were given important minutes, though not everything went well at Pinatar Arena.
In the second half of the first game Yeray left the field with an apparent muscle injury. The defender overextended trying to win the ball and could be seen favoring his groin as he was replaced by Oier Luengo. Sources claim Yeray sustained a muscle strain, though the extent of the injury is unknown at this point.
Gaizka Garitano offered some optimism after the game. “Let’s wait and see what Yeray’s situation is, I don’t think the injury is very serious,” the manager told reporters. Yeray will will undergo tests in the coming days with hopes of being able to feature in next weekend’s Basque Derby. If Yeray is unable to play against Eibar, Unai Núñez will take his place in the starting lineup.
