Óscar De Marcos “The Small Details Decide Games”
Athletic had won nine straight league games at home against Sevilla going into Thursday night’s clash. They wouldn’t make it ten in a row. Despite scoring first the Lions surrendered two late goals and were denied a clear penalty in the final minutes to lose 2-1 at San Mamés.
“The small details decide games and that was the case today,” Óscar De Marcos told reporters after the match. “There’s no time to lament. We’ve played a lot and we have three vital games left. As long as there are points available we have a chance and we must go for it.”
Losing to Sevilla was a substantial blow to Athletic’s aspirations of qualifying for Europe. The Basques currently trail seventh-placed Real Sociedad by three points and will need to win all three of their remaining games to have a chance at getting into the Europa League.
