Six Athletic Club Players On The Shortlist To Make Spain Squad For EURO 2020

Athletic’s season is still very much up in the air. Over the next few months the Basques could be crowned the Copa del Rey champions or, based on recent league form, fall dangerously close to the relegation battle at the bottom of the table. Whatever the fate may be, football will still be played in Bilbao this summer.

San Mamés is set to host a number of matches for EURO 2020 and a handful of Athletic players are in the shortlist to make the Spain squad. According to a report from Joaquín Maroto of AS, Luis Enrique has made a list of 45 players that he will choose from to build the final 23-man team and has been paying special attention to Athletic Club.

Iñaki Williams, Iker Muniain, Unai Simón, Yuri Berchiche, and Yeray are all being monitored closely along with Iñigo Martinez who is already a regular in the squad. Their chances of making the team will depend heavily on their level of performances throughout the remainder of the season, as well as their competitors.

Interestingly, Ander Capa wasn’t included in the report despite the 28-year-old being one of the best right-backs in La Liga this season. Either way, these Athletic stars have deservedly caught the attention of Luis Enrique and could represent Spain this summer during the European Championship.
