Spanish Football Federation Request To Use Lezama As Training Site During EURO 2020

The Lezama facilities could be used as base camp for Spain during EURO 2020 (AC)

Bilbao will act as one of eleven host cities for EURO 2020 which will include a number of games being played at Athletic’s San Mamés. The Spanish National Team will play at least two matches at the Cathedral, with a chance for one more depending on how far the team progresses. With the tournament being held across multiple locations, La Roja are in the process of deciding on a base camp and Lezama has emerged as a potential option.

According to a report from Miguel Ángel Lara of Marca, the RFEF have contacted Athletic with a request to use Lezama during EURO 2020. The plan would be to move to Lezama after opening training at Las Rozas as normal and Spain would have two grass fields available as well as one artificial field and the indoor gym. The ongoing construction at Lezama isn’t expected to be an issue.

Of course, the Spanish team wouldn’t be able to sleep at Lezama but could do so at the luxurious Urgoiti Palace hotel which is roughly 10 minutes away. In fact, the Urgoiti Palace is one of the main locations that has already been provided to teams who will travel to Bilbao for matches during EURO 2020. For now, the RFEF have yet to make a decision and could choose to stay outside of Spain, but the option of training at Lezama is definitely becoming more popular.
