Unai Núñez became the 102nd Athletic player to debut for Spanish National Team when he replaced Sergio Ramos late in the second half of Sunday’s 4-0 win over The Faroe Islands. The 22-year-old is one of the youngest Lions to play for the Selection and was understandably excited after the match when speaking to reporters.

“The first thing is to be happy for the team’s victory”, Núñez began. “As an individual, I’m also very happy for my debut with the Selection. It’s a dream that you have since childhood and I’ve been fortunate to fulfill it. I’m a lucky person. I’ve been fortunate to be a U21 European champions with a spectacular team and now I’ve been fortunate to come to the Selection with great players.”

There’s already been a lot of talk as to who Robert Moreno will call up for EURO 2020, but Núñez understands that all he can do it play well to convince the manager. “The coach will decide who will be called in the summer”, answered the defender when asked about the subject. “What we have to do is work with out club every day and the coach will think about it and choose the team for the European championship. We are going to prepare ourselves and we will give everything to be able to be on that list.” Unai Núñez, Yeray, and Iñigo Martinez will all be candidates for the National Team for the upcoming European Championship.
