Nico Serrano And Ander Iru Joining First Team Training At Lezama

Nico Serrano is one of the top young stars at Lezama (ZF)

Preseason is underway at Lezama. The first team began individual training on Thursday and, pending Friday’s second round of PCR testing, the squad could be cleared to begin group training this weekend. Six players have missed out so far after testing positive in the initial screening, but others are being added to the side.

Hodei Oleaga’s exit has left Athletic with three goalkeepers, though it’s normal to have four during preseason. As a result, Ander Iru will begin training with the first team on Monday, per Javier Beltrán of AS. Iru will feature as the starting goalkeeper for Bilbao Athletic this season and will benefit from the experience of working with the senior squad.

In addition, starlet Nico Serrano will also have the chance to train with the first team. According to a report from EiTB Kirolak on Friday night, the 17-year-old will join the squad on Monday as well to cover for others being unavailable due to illness. As arguably the top young player at Lezama, having the chance to work with the first team this summer will be invaluable for Nico Serrano. Bilbao Athletic striker Ewan Urain will also join the senior squad.

As for the six players who tested positive on Tuesday, they will all undergo screenings again next week with hopes of being able to join their teammates soon. Gaizka Garitano will be tasked with trimming the squad this summer to build the strongest team to compete for European qualification.
