Aritz Aduriz was born in the Basque city of Donostia to parents who were very athletic and focused on sports. As a young child he loved to swim and was particularly excellent at cross-country skiing until he was discovered by famous youth academy Antiguoko. Once he joined, Aduriz trained alongside teammates like Andoni Iraola, Xabi Alonso, and Mikel Arteta although he did not receive as much attention from professional clubs. The striker then joined Bilbao Athletic in 200 at the age of 19 and played there for two seasons before being promoted to the first team. He made his debut on 14 September, 2002 in a 2-0 loss to Barcelona at the San Mamés.
Aduriz’s career then took an interesting turn as he left Athletic for Burgos, on loan, before signing a permanent deal with Real Valladolid. He excelled with both clubs and was brought back to Athletic in 2006 only to leave two years later for Mallorca and then Valencia. In 2012 the Lions paid a fee of roughly €3 million to sign Aduriz from Valencia and that is when the legend was truly born. Since returning to the San Mamés, Aduriz has scored over 100 goals for Athletic and is already viewed as one of the best strikers in club history. He has aged like a fine wine and has become a fan favorite due to his commitment to Athletic and the passionate way he plays football.
Aritz Aduriz is under contract through 2020 and his deal does not contain a release clause.
