Bilbao Athletic have looked stunning so far this summer with new manager Joseba Etxeberria at the helm. The Kumeak opened the preseason with a convincing 4-2 win over Amorebieta before playing Arenas and Haro to 1-1 draws. A few days ago they faced off with Numancia from the Segunda are were able to secure another draw while also dominating for large stretches of the match.
As the team looks to build on their growing confidence, Bilbao Athletic participated in the Trofeo Oyonesa preseason tournament on Saturday. The Kumeak played the hosts to start the event and defeated Oyonesa 4-0 with two goals from Andoni Tascón, one from Juan Artola, and an own goal. In the second match, Jon Morcillo scored a penalty in the 17th minute to give Bilbao Athletic a 1-0 win over Alavés and the trophy.
Big things are expected from Bilbao Athletic this season. Etxeberria has a very strong squad to work with and the quality to challenge for a spot in the promotional playoffs. The team will play two final friendlies, against Leioa and Barakaldo, before kicking off the season on 25 August with a trip to newly-promoted Haro Deportivo.
