Bilbao Athletic extended their unbeaten streak to five straight games on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Osasuna B. The Kumeak were hoping to take all three points, but getting anything at Tajonar is always a good result. A Basque Derby is always unpredictable and this match was no different.
Osasuna put Bilbao Athletic under pressure early on, but it wouldn’t last long. Joseba Etxeberria’s side eventually took control of the game and looked to have taken an early lead when Dani Vivian scored a header until the corner flag was raised. Despite creating a number of chances, Bilbao Athletic were unable to break the deadlock in the first half.
Everything changed after the break when Victor San Bartolomé played a long ball over the top of the defense in the 48th minute. The pass fell to Jon Morcillo who was able to hold off a defender before beating the goalkeeper with a great shot. Unfortunately, a similar play took place at the other end of the field just four minutes later which led to an equalizer for Osasuna.
Bilbao Athletic continued to have the better chances throughout the remainder of the game, though neither side was able to find a winner before the final whistle. The draw was enough for the Kumeak to remain second in the table and the team will be back in action next Saturday when Arenas Club visits Lezama.
