It took a few weeks for Bilbao Athletic to acclimate to the squad turnover and new manager Joseba Etxeberria but the Kumeak are finally firing on all cylinders. The 5-2 loss to Cultural Leonesa back on 8 September was a turning point for the team who have won every game since without conceding a single goal. After victories over Salamanca and Tudelano, Osasuna B were the latest victims.
Coming into Saturday’s clash at Lezama the two reserve sides were separated by just one point the table. Osasuna B had been playing great football leading up to the Derby but were unable to do anything against an intense Bilbao Athletic team. Oihan Sancet opened up the scoring after just 14 minutes with a beautiful strike from outside the box before Osasuna put the ball into the back of their own net from a Jon Morcillo cross.
Sancet would score his second goal in the 27th minute, both assisted by Unai Vencedor, to give the Kumeak a 3-0 lead going into the break. The defense had very little to deal with as the team controlled possession and pace of play. Osasuna tried to look for ways to get back into the game, but the more they attacked the more vulnerable they became.
In the second half, Juan Artola created his own shot to score the fourth in the 55th minute followed by a beautiful curling effort from Morcillo for the fifth and final goal. From start to finish it was a truly dominant performance from Bilbao Athletic who momentarily move to the top of table. Etxeberria’s side will now turn their attention Sunday’s trip to Arenas Club.
