Bilbao Athletic were looking for their fifth consecutive victory as they hosted Amorebieta on Friday but knew it wouldn’t be an easy match. With Oihan Sancet unavailable due to serving international duty, Joseba Etxeberria was once again forced to change up the lineup. The Kumeak needed a positive result to keep their place at the top of the league table, though Amorebieta were also desperate for points.
It took 33 minutes for either side to open up the scoring and it was the visitors who struck first. Amorebieta’s Beñat Garro was able to finish off a corner kick and another goal would soon follow with Rementeria doubling the lead before halftime. Bilbao Athletic knew that had a lot of work to do and came out firing after the break.
Unai Vencedor pulled a goal back for the Kumeak in the 47 minute with a sublime free kick from well outside the left side of the box. The Amorebieta keeper was unable to get a touch to the ball as it dipped under the far post. Iñigo Baqué would then level the score just seconds later by heading a corner kick into the back of the net. Bilbao Athletic would have another chance from a corner in the 60th minute which was saved by the goalkeeper but Juan Artola was there to finish to complete the comeback.
It seemed as though Bilbao Athletic had overcome their first half woes and would be taking all three points, but Amorebieta weren’t beaten yet. Less than a minute after Artola’s goal, the ball was played over the top of the defense where Orozko settled and put his shot past Jokin Ezkieta to make it 3-3. That score would hold until the final whistle with both sides taking one point away from what was a thrilling match at Lezama.
The draw was enough to see the Katxorros keep a two point lead at the top of the table, but they will have to wait until the end of the weekend for other games to be played. Bilbao Athletic will travel to Stadium Gal next Saturday for a match against Real Unión who have earned 9 points from the opening 8 games of the season.
