Bilbao Athletic have been in dominant form over the past few weeks winning games against Salamanca, Tudelano, and Osasuna B. Saturday’s trip to Arenas Club presented yet another obstacle for the Kumeak to move clear at the top of the league table and the players were certainly up the for the challenge.
Joseba Etxeberria had to do without Oihan Sancet, who has been called up to the first team, which saw Victor San Bartolomé included in the starting lineup. Both sides started slow, creating few chances in the first half, before the Kumeak were able to take control early after the break. Juan Artola opened up the scoring in the 53rd minute with a header from a Jon Morcillo cross but the lead wouldn’t last long.
Arenas would respond in the 77th minute with a goal from a corner kick and the match looked to be heading towards a draw. However, Bilbao Athletic were able to find a late winner from a corner of their own when Oier Luengo headed a cross from Unai Vencedor into the back of the net with just two minutes left to play. The match ended in a 2-1 win for the Kumeak, their fourth straight victory, to move into first place in the table with 16 points.
