Bayern Munich Willing To Let Javi Martínez Leave For Free

The highly anticipated return of Javi Martínez fell apart last week. A transfer agreement was already in place between Athletic and Bayern. The deal looked done, but the Basque giants failed to come to terms with Martínez. Although the 32-year-old was willing to lower his wages to go back to Athletic, it wasn’t enough for the club to be able to afford the move.

Athletic gave up on signing Martínez. The club instead turned to Alex Berenguer who was announced on Friday. However, the situation has taken a sudden positive turn. According to a breaking report from Sky Sport Germany, Bayern Munich are willing to let Martínez leave for free with mere days left until the transfer window closes.

Without having to deal with a transfer fee, Athletic get another opportunity to try to bring Martínez back to San Mamés. In fact, reports in Germany claim that the Basques have already put an offer on the table along with Al-Nasr. All signs point to Javi Martínez leaving Bayern Munich in the coming days. If so, the veteran midfielder must choose between returning to Athletic or moving elsewhere.
