Yeray On Fast Track To Recovery From Muscle Injury

Yeray began jogging at Lezama on Tuesday (AC)

The past week was frustrating for Yeray. After picking up a muscle injury during a friendly with Sevilla, the defender returned to training only to suffer a new adductor injury just days before the team’s trip to Eibar. Yeray missed the Basque Derby and will almost certainly be ruled out for Thursday’s home opener against Cadíz.

Fortunately, it doesn’t appear as though Yeray will be sidelined for much longer. Yeray began jogging drills at Lezama on Tuesday which is normally the last step of recovery before being incorporated back into the group. Barring any setbacks the 25-year-old should be back in training soon. Gaizka Garitano will likely be cautious not to rush him back after two consecutive muscle injuries.

Unai Núñez will once again start in place of Yeray in Thursday’s match at San Mamés. Yeray’s absence gives Núñez the opportunity to compete for a permanent place in the lineup and prove he deserves more playing time this season.
