Bilbao Athletic Lose 1-0 In Friendly Against Racing

Bilbao Athletic have two wins and two losses this preseason (AC)

Bilbao Athletic faced the team’s biggest test of the preseason on Tuesday in a trip to El Sardinero. The Kumeak faced Racing, who were relegated from Segunda last season, in what proved to be a challenging match away from home.

Gorka Agirre and Nico Williams linked up to create the first real chance of the game but failed to put the ball in the back of the net. Although Bilbao Athletic’s press caused some problems for Racing, the hosts opened up the scoring after just 24 minutes.

A beautiful free-kick from Álvaro Bustos beat Ander Iru to give Racing a 1-0 lead. Bilbao Athletic struggles to create more chances in front of goal, but became more dangerous after Joseba Etxeberria made a few changes after the break.

However, the second half was full of stoppages as Racing constantly brought on other players. Bilbao Athletic had a few opportunities to level the score, while Iru stepped up to make some important saves. The game ended 1-0 with the early free kick proving to be the winner.

Bilbao Athletic have two wins and two draws through four preseason games. The team will be back in action on Saturday with a visit to Sodupe.
