Bilbao Athletic Start The Season With A Trip To Arenas Club

Bilbao Athletic aim to qualify for the promotional playoffs again this season (AC)

Following up last season’s success will be a challenge for Bilbao Athletic. In his first year as manager Joseba Etxeberria led the team to the promotional playoffs but fell short in the tournament. With several new faces in the squad Bilbao Athletic hope to secure another top four finish in the campaign ahead.

This year the Segunda B will be separated into five groups divided into two subgroups. Bilbao Athletic have been seeded in Subgroup A of Group II along with Arenas Club, Barakaldo, Portugalete, Alavés B, Real Sociedad B, Real Unión, Amorebieta, Leioa, Laredo, and Racing de Santander.

Bilbao Athletic kick off the new season on 18 October with a trip to neighbors Arenas Club. The first home game will then take place the following weekend when Racing visit Lezama. Real Union will host the Kumeak on 28 March for the final fixture of the phase.

The team began preseason training on 2 August and played their first summer friendly on Friday, beating Santurtzi 2-0 at Lezama. Going into Etxeberria’s second year on the bench, expectations are high for Bilbao Athletic with several talented young players in the squad.
