Kuko Ziganda Wants Peru Nolaskoain At Real Oviedo
Athletic’s season starts in just two days, but the transfer window remains open until 5 October. So far Gorka Guruzeta and Andoni López have left the club and more departures could follow. Iago Herrerín is expected to depart within the next month while Gaizka Larrazabal will likely do the same. They may not be the only ones on the way out.
Without European football this season the first team squad is overcrowded. Unai Vencedor and Oier Zarraga will split time with Bilbao Athletic in order to have minutes, but there still may not be room for everyone. Iñigo Vicente has yet to earn his place and Peru Nolaskoain faces strong competition at his position. The potential arrivals of Javi Martínez and Alex Berenguer would make playing time even less likely for others.
Nolaskoain’s immediate future is uncertain. The 21-year-old returns from an impressive loan spell with Deportivo, but missed the entire preseason with an ankle injury. There’s no denying that Nolaskoain is ready for first team football. However, opportunities may be scare with so many midfielders in the squad this year.
There’s still a chance that Nolaskoain could be sent out on loan. In fact, one club is already prepared to sign the Lezama product if he does leave. Kuko Ziganda wants to bring Nolaskoain to Real Oviedo, according to a report from Javier Beltrán of AS. The former Athletic coach needs to continue improving his squad ahead of the new season and would give Nolaskoain a starting role.
For now, Nolaskoain plans to stay at Athletic and fight for his place in the team. Capable of playing in midfield and central defense, he offers versatility that Gaizka Garitano values. The transfer window closes in 25 days, giving Peru Nolaskoain time to prove himself or show that he would benefit more from another season on loan.
