Aritz Aduriz “I Wish I Could Have Waited For The Cup Final”

Aritz Aduriz hung up his boots too soon. That’s strange to say about a 39-year-old footballer, but it’s true. The Athletic legend deserved to play the Copa del Rey final. He deserved to retire with the chance of winning a major trophy. Sadly, an ongoing hip injury ended his career during the football stoppage.

Having played football all of his life, Aduriz must now adjust to life off the field. “I know I’m starting from scratch, it’s a new stage,” he said in the preview for Six Dreams. The La Liga series returns on Amazon Prime Video on 2 October and features Aduriz along with five others.

“When you make a decision you always have to be convinced that it’s the best,” Aduriz explained. “I wish I could have waited for the Cup final. I would have liked nothing in the world more than to play it. All my life I fought for the Cup final, but it was impossible. I was able to enjoy the whole cake, but it was the icing missing on top.”

Despite missing out on the historic final, Aduriz retired as one of the greatest players to ever wear the Athletic shirt. The striker ended his career with 172 goals for the Zurigorri, sixth-most in club history. When the Cup final is played Aritz Aduriz will be there. The legend won’t be on the field, but rather in the stands supporting the club of his life.

Six Dreams 2 premiers on Amazon Prime Video on 2 October and will feature Aritz Aduriz along with Borja Iglesias, Santi Cazorla, Paco López, Clemente Villaverde, and former Mallorca CEO Maheta Molango.
