Torino Reportedly Lower Asking Price For Alex Berenguer To €6.5 Million
Javi Martínez remains Athletic’s top transfer target this summer, but Alex Berenguer is still on the agenda. The 25-year-old has turned heads with Torino and has been closely followed by Athletic since his days with Osasuna.
Torino Sporting Director, Davide Vagnati, recently confirmed that Berenguer is available for purchase. The Italians are looking to cash in on a number of players and expect Berenguer to leave this summer. Athletic lead the race for the attacker but the transfer fee continues to be the biggest hurdle.
After paying €5.5 million to sign Berenguer from Osasuna in 2017, Torino hope to turn a profit. Athletic refuse to pay a high price, especially following Jon Morcillo’s spectacular preseason, though Torino seem willing to lower their demands at this point.
The latest reports in Italy suggest that Torino would accept an offer of €6.5 million for Berenguer. If signed by Athletic, €1.5 million of the payment would be owed to Osasuna due to the anti-Athletic clause in Berenguer’s contract.
With the transfer window open through 5 October the two sides still have time to negotiate a transfer. However, Athletic have competition. Real Sociedad and Granada are also said to be interested in signing Berenguer, but so far neither club has had any contact with Torino.
