Torino Sporting Director Verifies Alex Berenguer Is Available To Athletic At The Right Price
Athletic’s transfer market is small. Only two players, Javi Martínez and Alex Berenguer, are being pursued by the club at the moment. Just a few days ago Bayern Munich Chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, confirmed that Martínez will likely leave this summer with the club willing to negotiate his exit. Berenguer is in a similar situation.
Torino Sporting Director, Davide Vagnati, has since assured that Berenguer is available to Athletic at the right price. “Edera, Berenguer and Falque are not players who aren’t good enough for this project, but it’s certain that there will be exits,” Vagnati told Alfonso Herrán of AS. “Of course, the exits will depend on many factors.”
Athletic have been following Berenguer for years. “They asked about him a long time ago, but we haven’t had any contact with Athletic in recent days,” ensured Vagnati. “If a good offer comes he can leave. I will not speak in public about money, but Alex is a good player and we are happy with him and with his attitude.”
Recent reports claimed that Torino were asking €12 million for the 25-year-old, but the AS report says he could be available for as low as €6 million. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have placed a €15 million price tag on Javi Martínez and could be willing to come down to €10 million by the time the transfer window closes on 5 October.
Berenguer joined Torino in 2017 in a €5.5 million deal with Osasuna. The agreement also included a €1.5 million anti-Athletic clause which would be paid to Osasuna in the event that Alex Berenguer is ever sold to Athletic. With a little over a month left before the transfer window closes, Athletic still have time to negotiate potential transfers.
