Andoni López Signs With Logroñés After Terminating Contract With Athletic
Andoni López’s time in Bilbao has come to an end. Following two unsuccessful loan spells and without a place in the first team in the final year of his contract, Athletic have announced that the club and player have agreed to a release. Lopez’s contract has been terminated and the 24-year-old is signing with Logroñés.
Included in the agreement to allow López to leave for free, Athletic will retain a buy-back clause that is valid for one year. The price of the clause was not revealed. Shortly after Athletic’s announcement, Logroñés also announced the signing.
López joined Athletic back in 2012 and constantly improved as he rose through the youth levels. The left-back was promoted to Bilbao Athletic in 2016 and after two seasons looked capable of becoming a first team player. Unfortunately, López never had a clear path to the squad and spent the previous campaigns on loan with Almeria and Elche.
Although his chapter with Athletic has come to a close, López did get to fulfill his boyhood dream before leaving. In 2018 Andoni López made his first team debut against Girona, his only appearance, and will still have the option to return in the future if he plays well for his new club.
