Preseason has finally begun for CD Basconia. Just 37 days after being eliminated from the Tercera promotional playoffs, Patxi Salinas’s squad returned to Lezama on Monday with aspirations of once again competing for promotion. As usual, the Basauritarras have a different look with several players being promoted and others coming up to take their place.

A number of key players from last year’s squad have made the climb to Bilbao Athletic. Julen Agirrezabala, Álvaro Núñez, Aitor Paredes, Mikel Kortazar, Xabier Arberas, Beñat Prados, Jon Cabo, Gorka Agirre, and Youssouf Diarra have all been promoted while Ander Lorente, Gorka Campo, and Jon Guruzeta were called up to train with Bilbao Athletic as well and will likely split time between the two squads.

Replacing the departures are 13 players promoted from Juvenil A along with three new additions. Adrián Pérez has signed from Danok Bat, Asier Grande joins from Villarreal, and Eneko Delgado arrives from Real Madrid. Only nine players from last year’s team remain in the squad.

Basconia took to the field at 10:00 a.m. on Monday after all players passed their medical tests and PCR screenings. With preseason training now underway the team will soon start playing friendlies, but the schedule will not be finalized until the required sanitary approval is given. Following a highly successful first season as manager, Patxi Salinas will be aiming for another impressive top four finish.
