Ewan Urain And Nico Serrano Join First Team In Preseason Training
Gaizka Garitano’s first team squad has been quite thin since preseason training began last week. With six players testing positive in the initial PCR screenings and the likes of Yuri Berchiche and Peru Nolaskoain dealing with injuries, younger players are benefitting from having more opportunities to impress the manager every day.
For now there is room in the squad for others during training sessions, as well as a need for more players in the daily drills. As a result, Garitano has used the situation to reward two starlets who could soon be taking the field at San Mamés.
Bilbao Athletic’s Ewan Urain and Nico Serrano were both called up to start training with the first team and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Urain, a tall and strong striker, was hampered by injuries last season but impressed when healthy. Meanwhile, Serrano is widely regarded as the most promising player at Lezama with the potential to become one of Athletic’s best players in the years ahead.
In addition to Urain and Serrano, Ander Iru has also been called up to train with the first team as the fourth goalkeeper. The 21-year-old has already worked with the first team in the past and was even on the bench for Athletic’s Cup match against Sestao River back in January. Ander Iru, Ewan Urain, and Nico Serrano will all be competing for starting roles with Bilbao Athletic in the upcoming season.
