Athletic Will Face Kuko Ziganda’s Real Oviedo In Preseason Friendly On 4 September
Athletic’s preseason schedule is coming together nicely. After announcing friendlies against Logroñés and Alavés, the Lions have added a third match to the calendar. In what will be a special game, Athletic will travel to Real Oviedo on 4 September in a meeting against former coach Kuko Ziganda.
The match was originally scheduled to be played at 9:00 p.m. at NMR Carlos Tartiere, but has since been moved to a noon kickoff as Athletic will host Eibar at Lezama the following day.
Ziganda has done well since taking over Real Oviedo back in February. At the time Oviedo were in the relegation zone but Ziganda managed to guide the team to a 15th-place finish. Facing off against his former club will be a good challenge for Ziganda who will be tasked with keep Oviedo in the Second Division again this season.
On another note, Real Oviedo could be the destination for at least one Athletic player who will leave on loan this summer. Recent reports claim that Ziganda wants to sign someone from the Zurigorri to strengthen his squad and Gorka Guruzeta is the most likely to make the switch for the upcoming campaign.
