Athletic Hope To Start Group Training Sessions On Saturday Following Second Round Of PCR Testing

Raul Garcia Training

Athletic had to start preseason with individual training (AC)

The start to preseason training didn’t go according to plan for Athletic. With six players receiving positive PCR tests, the squad was forced to work individually on Thursday and Friday as part of the La Liga health protocols. However, the players may finally be allowed to start training as a group on Saturday.

Those who received negative results underwent a second round of PCR testing on Friday and, if none of the screenings come back positive, group training will be allowed at Lezama. On the other hand, the six players who originally tested positive will be tested again next week.

The team will also be starting double sessions on Saturday which means there will be two trainings each day. Normally one will be used for conditioning with the other tactical. Gaizka Garitano will have 25 players at his disposal on Saturday with Bilbao Athletic’s Ander Iru joining the first team squad as the fourth goalkeeper in training.
