Dani Vivian Signs Contract Renewal With Athletic Club Through 2023

Dani Vivian has signed a new contract with Athletic through 2023 (AC)

Dani Vivian is officially a first team player. On Tuesday Athletic formally announced that the 21-year-old has extended his contract with the club through 2023 which comes with a full promotion to the senior squad. Vivian’s previous contract was set to expire next summer and had a €30 million release clause which has now been raised to €40 million.

The young defender spent last summer, as well as most of the season, training with the first team and was named the fourth-choice center-back, but limited opportunities and injuries prevented Vivian from ever making his debut. Instead, Vivian made just 12 appearances with Bilbao Athletic and missed over three months with a back injury.

Now healthy, Vivian is poised to challenge for a permanent spot in Garitano’s squad when preseason begins later this week. The Santutxu product will have strong competition with Yeray, Unai Núñez, and Iñigo Martínez all standing in his way. If unable to convince the manager, Vivian will be expected to join a Segunda club on loan for the year to continue his development.

Since signing with CD Basconia in 2016, Vivian has blossomed into one of the most exciting young players at Lezama. The strong center-back excels in winning challenges and balls in the air, as well as reading the game well and being comfortable with the ball at his feet. Dani Vivian has all the qualities and potential to become a great player at San Mamés in the years ahead and has committed his future to the club with a new contract.
