Athletic Announce Preseason Friendly Against Alavés On 2 September At Lezama

Athletic will host Alavés in September for a preseason friendly (AC)

In just 10 days the Athletic first team will be back at Lezama to begin preseason training. Following yet another year of failing to qualify for Europe, Gaizka Garitano will be tasked with preparing the squad to compete for a top seven finish. Summer friendlies play an important role in helping teams get ready for the upcoming campaign and Athletic’s schedule is starting to take shape.

On Monday Athletic officially announced that the club will be hosting Alavés at Lezama on 2 September for a preseason friendly. The game will kickoff at 11:00 a.m. This is the first friendly that has been confirmed and there are sure to be more. However, things will be complicated for every club because of the recent pandemic.

Athletic have already shared that the first team won’t be traveling to another country during the preseason. Traditionally, the squad would spend a week away to train and play friendlies, but that has been ruled out due to health concerns. It’s likely that Athletic will look to play as many friendlies as possible close to home and hosting Alavés will be an important fixture to prepare for the start of the new season.
