Galatasaray Reportedly Finalizing 6-Month Loan Agreement For Iago Herrerín
Iago Herrerín has one foot out the door and could soon make his departure from Athletic. After recently revealing that he has asked to leave the club this summer, Herrerín has been looking for a new club and Galatasaray has been heavily linked with a move for the 32-year-old goalkeeper.
With Fernando Muslera ruled out for the rest of the year with a fractured tibia and fibula, Galatasaray are in need of a new goalkeeper for the upcoming season. The Turkish giants are said to have been in talks with Athletic for a while now and it finally seems as though an agreement could be just around the corner.
According to reports in Turkey, Galatasaray have already closed a deal that would see Herrerín join the club for six months to feature as the starting goalkeeper in place of Muslera. So far there’s been no word from Athletic, but Sporting Director Rafa Alkorta recently explained in a press conference that Herrerín would only be allowed to leave if a convincing offer was made by another club.
Herrerín is entering the final year of his contract with Athletic and will be free to negotiate with other clubs in January. If the reports in Turkey are true, he will play for Galatasaray until at least January before eventually making a permanent exit. At this point nothing is final, although Herrerín did post a somewhat cryptic message on social media showing a picture of the lion he has tattooed on his hand with the caption “A lion never stops being one”. Iago Herrerín is also now following Galatasaray on Instagram, adding more to the story.
