Preseason Training Will Begin On 13 August For Athletic Club
It’s been a long season. Between the run to the Copa del Rey final and fighting for Europe Athletic played a lot of football. More importantly, the pandemic made this year strange in many ways and forced the season to end two months later than usual. As a result, players will have a much shorter vacation before returning for the preseason.
Athletic played their final game on Sunday and the players officially began their offseason vacation today. It won’t last long, however, with Athletic announcing that the players will report to Lezama starting on 10 August for medicals. Preseason training will officially begin on 13 August, meaning the players will only have three weeks off.
The club also announced that the entire preseason will be held at Lezama. Over the past few years the first team has traveled to another country for a week of training abroad and friendlies, but due to health concerns that won’t be happening. At this point it’s unclear how many preseason friendlies will be played, though it seems likely that most clubs will aim to stay close to home.
