Nico Serrano made his debut and played 58 minutes against Badajoz (AC)

Nico Serrano is, without question, the most promising and prolific young player at Athletic. Since joining Lezama from Villarreal back in 2018, the starlet has been incredible and played so well with the Juvenil A team this year that he’s being promoted directly to Bilbao Athletic for the upcoming season.

Bypassing Basconia comes as no surprise for Serrano who is ready to test himself at a much higher level of competition. However, the 18-year-old didn’t have to wait until next season to get his first taste professional football. Serrano was called up to the Bilbao Athletic squad for Saturday’s promotional playoffs game against Badajoz and made his official debut in the second half.

Serrano came on for Juan Artola in the 68th minute and made an immediate impact on the right wing. Always full of confidence, Serrano won multiple dribbles and caused constant problems for defenders throughout the rest of the game. In total, Nico Serrano played 52 minutes with the game going into extra time and proved that he’s more than ready for the challenge of being a Bilbao Athletic player next season.
