Bilbao Athletic Will Host Friendly Match Against Logroñés On Wednesday At Lezama
In just two weeks Bilbao Athletic will compete in the promotional playoffs with hopes of moving up to the Segunda. The first year under manager Joseba Etxeberria has been a roaring success and the team has spent the past few weeks preparing for the first round match against Badajoz. Taking the field again after such a long break won’t be easy, so the Kumeak will play a friendly in the buildup.
Bilbao Athletic will host Logroñés on Wednesday at Lezama in what will be an important test for both teams. Logroñés were 13 points clear at the top of the table before the pandemic and will also be competing in the playoffs later this month.
Etxeberria’s squad will enter the playoffs more healthy than at any point during the season. Injuries have been a serious issue all year but Ewan Urain, Andoni Tascón, and Julen Bernaola have returned to training and will be available to the Mister after missing extended time. Juvenil A starlet Nico Serrano has also been called up to the team and will essentially take the place of Asier Córdoba who turned down a renewal and has left the club.
Bilbao Athletic will face Badajoz on 18 July at Nuevo Mirador De Algeciras with the winner advancing to the next round. The Kumeak must win three straight games to earn promotion to the Segunda. Victory won’t be easy. Badajoz have also enjoyed an impressive season and made a deep run in the Copa del Rey where they eliminated Eibar in the Round of 32 before being eliminated by Granada.
