Athletic secured an important victory on Saturday, defeating Real Betis 1-0 at San Mamés to move within five points of Europe. The Lions desperately needed the win to stay in the top race top seven but have no time to celebrate the result. On Tuesday Athletic will travel to Camp Nou for a big game against Barcelona where another three points will be on the line.

The Basques have beaten Barcelona twice this season, first on the opening day of the season and then again in the Copa del Rey to advance to the final. However, Barcelona will be out for revenge and are in a tight race for the La Liga title. They can’t afford to drop points, but Athletic have no intention of leaving Catalunya with anything less than three points.

Athletic will go to Barcelona with everything, but will be without one key player. Yuri Berchiche was shown a yellow card in the win over Real Betis, his 5th of the season, and will be suspended for the next match. Berchiche has been one of Athletic’s best players this season and replacing his contributions won’t be easy. Mikel Balenziaga and Iñigo Lekue will likely be the options for Gaizka Garitano to start at left-back.
