Gaizka Larrazabal “We Have To Get All Three Points”

Gaizka Larrazabal won’t be happy with anything other than a win against Betis (AC)

Athletic’s trip to Ipurua on Wednesday was disappointing. The Lions went to Eibar hoping to bring back all three points, but struggled against their neighbors and needed a late goal from Asier Villalibre to rescue a point. Gaizka Larrazabal was handed a rare start in the draw, though he wasn’t happy about the final result.

“The point helped us very little because we have very difficult games ahead,” Larrazabal told Radio Popular. “It was a shame, but the team was fine because it wasn’t an easy game. When you go to a field like Ipurua it’s normal not to dominate, have possession, or create chances. There are things to improve, but I don’t think we lacked ambition, not at all.”

Larrazabal was quick to praise teammate Asier Villalibre who has come on strong since January and scored the late equalizer. “Asi scored a great goal. He’s always there and I hope he takes advantage of the chances and scores many more.”

Athletic haven’t had much time to reflect on the poor performance. The Lions will host Real Betis at San Mamés on Saturday where only a victory will be an acceptable result.

“We have to get all three points to be closer to the positions above. We have to take advantage of Betis not being in a good moment and with the coach in question. More than focusing on them we have to think about what we know how to do. It’s important that we don’t concede a goal. From there if we can score two or even three it would be great.”

Larrazabal has made 11 appearances so far this season and hopes to have more consistent playing time in the final 9 games. Joining the first team over the summer was a big step for the 22-year-old who is determined to fight for his place at San Mamés.
