Unai Vencedor To Join The First Team In Training
Athletic’s performance in Sunday’s draw against Atlético Madrid was better than expected. Having not played football in over three months it was very likely that the teams would struggle for rhythm, but the Lions were solid aside from one mistake that led to the tying goal. The point gained was a good result and now Athletic must quickly switch their focus to Wednesday’s visit to Ipurua.
Traveling to Eibar for a Basque Derby presents different challenges. To begin with, this will be the second game of Athletic’s compact schedule that will see the Lions play four matches in ten days. Eibar sit just two points off the relegation zone and will be desperate for points as they welcome the Zurigorri.
Gaizka Garitano will be forced to rotate the team in order to keep players fresh and get the best out of the group. With this in mind, it’s possible that Unai Vencedor could be called up for the fixture. As reported by La Cantera De Lezama, Vencedor didn’t train with Bilbao Athletic on Monday and will begin working with the first team tomorrow.
Bringing up Vencedor should come as no surprise. The 19-year-old offers something different than the rest of the midfielders in the squad and won’t be missed by Bilbao Athletic because the promotional playoffs are still weeks away. Whether or not he sees the field on Wednesday remains to be seen, but with match day squads increased to 23 players having Unai Vencedor on the bench will give the Mister more options. The starlet already made his debut earlier this season against Osasuna.
