Peru Nolaskoain And Iñigo Vicente Ready For First Team Football
Athletic will be undergoing a youth movement in the years ahead. With Aritz Aduriz retiring and the upcoming departures of Mikel San José and Beñat, fresh faces will be needed to take their place in the first team and help usher in a new era at San Mamés. Promising players like Oihan Sancet, Unai Vencedor, and Dani Vivian are prepared to fight for minutes in Gaizka Garitano’s squad, though there are two others who have proven that they are ready to contribute.
Peru Nolaskoain and Iñigo Vicente both started the preseason with the first team but were unable to convince the manager. Instead, they were sent away on loan, to Deportivo and Mirandés respectively, where they have impressed while playing in the Segunda. When the pair returns to Athletic at the end of the season they will be given every opportunity to earn their place in the squad.
The club is counting on the two starlets who have the potential to become important players at San Mamés. According to a report from Ramón Suso of Mundo Deportivo, Sporting Director Rafa Alkorta and Garitano believe that Nolaskoain and Vicente could fit perfectly into the team next year. Of course, neither will be handed minutes so it will be up to both to prove themselves during the preseason.
Nolaskoain has been a key player for Deportivo all season, making 25 appearances and even scoring one goal. The 21-year-old could be a natural successor to San José and Beñat and already made his debut with the first team last season. Vicente has also done well and his versatility of being able to play on the wing or through the middle is greatly valued by Garitano. The 22-year-old has scored 5 goals and given 4 assists in 27 appearances for Mirandés.
The upcoming transfer window will be unlike any other in recent history. Clubs will have far less money to spend as a result of the pandemic, but Athletic are no strangers to relying on young players. The club has a lot of faith and hope in Peru Nolaskoain and Iñigo Vicente who are now ready to fight for permanent roles in the first team and become the next stars of San Mamés.
