Bilbao Athletic Strikers Ewan Urain And Andoni Tascón Return To Training

It’s been a challenging season for Bilbao Athletic. The Kumeak have dealt with several major injuries throughout the campaign and first-year manager Joseba Etxeberria has had to make do without a striker for the majority of matches. In the face of such adversity Bilbao Athletic still managed to qualify for the promotional playoffs and began preparing for the competition last week.

Etxeberria called up a total of 18 players to begin training at Lezama. This group included Juvenil A’s Nico Serrano, although the team has still been without a striker. Going into the playoffs, Bilbao Athletic will once again have to find solutions to lead the attack but reinforcements may finally be on the way.

Strikers Ewan Urain and Andoni Tascón returned to training on Friday, albeit in a limited capacity. The forwards have missed the majority of season, but played at an impressive level when healthy and could possibly be cleared to participate before the playoffs begin.   Having the pair available would be a massive boost for Etxeberria’s side.

Whether or not Urain or Tascón are given the green light for the playoffs remains to be seen. Normally, players returning from serious injuries need several weeks to get back into proper shape and the recent football stoppage adds more uncertainty. Either way, their return to training is encouraging.

In addition, goalkeepers Aritz De Miguel and Christophe Atangana trained with Bilbao Athletic on Friday as well. The pair will join CD Basconia when the Basauritarras return to training on Monday. De Miguel and Atangana spent part of the season away on loan but have since returned as a result of the remaining league matches being canceled.
