Iñigo Lekue Suffers Ankle Sprain During Training
As Athletic continues preparing for the return of the La Liga season the team finally has a deadline to look forward to now. On Saturday the Spanish Prime Minister announced that the season can resume starting on 8 June, although the league plans for the first games to be held on 12 June. Unfortunately, at least one Athletic player will be unavailable at the start.
Iñigo Lekue left training early on Saturday after suffering an ankle injury. The club announced that the right-back has been diagnosed with a Grade II-III left ankle sprain, meaning moderate-severe, although X-Rays revealed no bone damage. Lekue will undergo an MRI early next week after swelling has improved in order to get establish a more accurate timeline for recovery.
The most optimistic scenario would see Lekue out for three weeks before being incorporated back into the group. Either way, the 27-year-old will be unavailable when matches restart. Iñigo Lekue has struggled with injuries over the past few years which have limited his minutes, though the manager continues to value his versatility as a player.
