Antiguoko Starlets Álex Alba And Unax Rezola Sign With Lezama
Real Sociedad and Antiguoko have had a partnership since 2001 which has seen many talented players stay in Gipuzkoa, but that’s not always the case. At times some starlets choose to go elsewhere and this year La Real will miss out on two promising footballers who have chosen to join other clubs in the Basque Country.
As reported on Wednesday by Miguel González of Diario Vasca, Antiguoko’s Álex Alba and Unax Rezola have rejected offers from Real Sociedad and will join Lezama. Athletic reached an agreement with the agency that represents both players who have now signed three-year contracts with the club.
Álex Alba is a center-back who has also played both fullback spots as well as defensive midfielder. The 16-year-old served as the team captain this season and also took penalty kicks. As a defender, Alba is very good at winning challenges and passing the ball out of the back.
Unax Rezola, also 16 years old, is left-footed and normally plays on the left wing, although this season he has featured on the right and as an attacking midfielder. Taking on defenders is one of Rezola’s biggest strengths along with scoring goals.
Alba and Rezola regularly trained with Real Sociedad over the past few years and were expected to join the club’s academy next season, but will instead enter the Juvenil level at Lezama. Both have represented the Basque Country U16 team and will bring more quality and potential to Athletic’s youth system next season.
