Construction Resumes At Lezama Following Work Stoppage
The quarantine in Spain put a halt to Athletic’s ongoing renovations at Lezama. Since September the new first team building has been under development and construction has finally resumed with the country ending the mandatory work stoppage. Athletic have posted a video of all that has been accomplished up until this point and ensure that plans are still on track to be completed as designed.
By building a specific first team building the club also plans to remodel the current building into housing for youth players at the academy. In addition, the club also revealed that a section of 508 seats has been erected beside Field 1, where the first team normally trains, to give fans seating when allowed to watch training sessions at Lezama.
The original goal was to open the new first team building before the start of the 2020/2021 season, but it may take longer given the work stoppage. As a whole, the entire renovation plan is scheduled to be completed by late 2022 or early 2023.
