Five Lezama Players Will Leave The Club After Spending The Season Away On Loan

Competition is always fierce at Lezama (AC)

Every young player at Lezama dreams of one day reaching the first team and taking the field at San Mamés. Unfortunately, only a select few will make it all the way. The intense competition at Athletic’s academy sees new players come and others leave every year and the club has already been hard at work preparing the squads for next season.

Two players have already been signed for Basconia ahead of the upcoming campaign. Danok Bat’s Adrián Pérez will join the Basauritarras when his contract expires at the end of the season along with Asier Grande who will be returning to Lezama after spending the last two years with Villarreal. With new additions, along with many players from Juvenil A coming up, others will be leaving the club.

On Saturday Athletic officially announced that five players who spent the season away on loan will not be offered contract renewals. Asier Arana (Gernika), Aitor Aguado (Deusto), Sergio García (Zamudio), Unai Llorente (Urduliz), and Keenan Mendibelzua (Getxo) will all be free to sign with other clubs when their contracts expire on 30 June. Although Llorente and Mendibelzua were not officially promoted to Basconia over the summer, the pair did spend the year on loan in the Tercera.

Basconia have enjoyed a highly successful year under new manager Patxi Salinas and will take part in the promotional playoffs to end the current season. Next year the large majority of players from Juvenil A will be promoted to Basconia while many Basauritarras will take the step up to Bilbao Athletic.
