Athletic Players To Begin Medical Tests On Thursday Ahead Of Returning To Training

Players will have medical tests starting on Thursday (AC)

The return of football is just around the corner. Spain will allow La Liga players to begin training at club facilities in just a few days, but first medical tests must be conducted. Players will need to pass the tests in order to be permitted to train and Athletic have made plans to conduct the required screening this week.

Starting on Thursday, 7 May, players will come to Lezama to be tested for Covid-19, per Iñaki Ugalde of Mundo Deportivo. Two types of tests will be given, one to determine if an individual currently has Covid-19 and another to check for immunity or the presence of antibodies which would suggest exposure in the past.

It will take approximately 48 hours for the results to be obtained and those who pass the screening will then be allowed to begin training individually at Lezama. In time the plan is for players to transition to training in small groups before eventually doing so as an entire team. La Liga hopes to resume matches by the middle of June and this time will give players the opportunity to get back into shape before taking the field.
