Former Athletic Manager Kuko Ziganda Says Youth Development “Should Be In The DNA Of Every Club”
Kuko Ziganda’s time on the Athletic bench didn’t go as planned, but he’s found a new challenge coaching Real Oviedo. Although he only oversaw three games before the season was brought to a halt, the team played much better football and picked up six of a possible nine points.
On Friday Ziganda took part in a virtual panel conducted by the Asturian Coaches Committee where he discussed his background. “My career has always been Osasuna and Athletic, two clubs that have worked hard and have done well with developing young players,” he said. “They believe in it. It should be in the DNA of every club and for me it’s invaluable.”
Real Oviedo currently sit 17th in the Segunda table and 11 points off of the promotional playoffs. Ziganda’s early success has the club excited about the future and he would go on to share his desire for the season to resume as long as it’s deemed safe to do so. Kuko Ziganda’s contract with Real Oviedo will be automatically extended through next season if the team avoids relegation and achieves permanence.
