Peru Nolaskoain “There Are No Guarantees”
Peru Nolaskoain has enjoyed a highly successful season on loan with Deportivo. After a rough start to the campaign, which included being sidelined for over a month following appendicitis surgery, the 21-year-old has become a key player in the team and is making his case to return to the Athletic squad.
At the moment clubs are preparing to return to training in early May which will require routine Covid-19 testing, though Nolaskoain isn’t sure when matches will take place again.
“At the moment there are no guarantees and that’s why we have to wait a little for everything to improve,” he said during a virtual interview on Monday. “Starting with individual training seems good to me, but the priority is those who are on the front lines. Players need guarantees to return to training and even more to return to play. With time everything is getting better but training and competing will all depend on health.”
Until the season is over Nolaskoain is committed to helping Deportivo finish as high as possible in the table. “Both I and the clubs believe that the season ends when the last game ends,” said the Lezama product. “I have no problem staying until whatever that date will be.”
When Nolaskoain returns to Athletic at the end of the season he will be given every opportunity to fight for a place in the team. Following excellent performances this season, along with positional versatility, Peru Nolaskoain has a very good chance of convincing the manager that he’s ready to contribute at San Mamés.
