Renewal Talks With Unai Simón And Ander Capa Put On Hold
The ongoing battle against Covid-19 has brought life to a standstill. For the world of football, there is uncertainty as to when or if the season will return and clubs are unable to properly plan for the months ahead. With that being the case two Athletic players will have to wait for new contracts.
Before Spain went into lockdown Athletic was scheduled to meet with the representatives of Unai Simón and Ander Capa to continue renewal negotiations. The two have been among the best in Europe at their positions this season and are set to sign improved contracts with the club to raise their wages and release clauses.
While both players have expressed to the club that they have no desire to leave and are excited to sign new deals, further talks must wait. Athletic want to meet with both in person to finalize an agreement rather than virtually. The football stoppage will also have a financial impact on Athletic that must be considered before making any firm decisions.
Once the health crisis improves Athletic will resume negotiations, which are expected to be straightforward and move quickly. Ander Capa is currently under contract through 2022 while Unai Simón’s deal runs through 2023. Both have a €50 million release clause which will increase dramatically once the renewals are finalized.
