Asier Villalibre Returns To Training Following Lumbar Fracture
Less than 24 hours after it was reported that Asier Villalibre should be back on the field before the end of the month the young striker has taken another important step in his recovery from a lumbar fracture. As Athletic returned to training on Wednesday after having the past two days off, Villalibre was able to rejoin his teammates at Lezama for most of the session.
While the 22-year-old didn’t participate in every part of training, his workload will increase over the coming days in hopes of being cleared to play again as soon as possible. Baring any unforeseen relapse, Villalibre should get the medical green light before the end of March as previously expected.
The only players who missed training were Oscar De Marcos, although close to a return after undergoing ankle surgery back in December, and Beñat who is nursing a sprained ankle.
Gaizka Garitano and the squad will continue preparing this week for Sunday’s league match against Atlético Madrid which is set to be played behind closed doors. However, La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation are scheduled to meet on Thursday in light of the growing Covid-19 crisis and many believe that league games could ultimately be postponed.
