Oscar De Marcos Will Be Cleared To Play Again Before The Copa Del Rey Final
“If the Cup final comes I hope to be able to play.” Oscar De Marcos was full of hopefulness when he said these words during a press conference two weeks ago and it looks as though his wish could come true. Since speaking with the media, Athletic have booked their place in the Copa del Rey final and all signs point to De Marcos being cleared in time for the historic fixture.
The right-back has been out of action since undergoing ankle surgery back on 20 December and his recovery has gone quite well. For the past few weeks De Marcos has been working at a good pace with trainers at Lezama and will rejoin his teammates in training in the coming days.
According to a report from Juanma Velasco of Marca, De Marcos is expected to be given the medical green light to feature in more than one game before the Cup final. For the 30-year-old it will be a race for fitness to make the squad for the trip to La Cartuja on 18 April.
Once cleared to play again, it will be up to Gaizka Garitano to decide how to best utilize the versatile veteran who will be returning from a three-month absence. Oscar De Marcos missed the 2015 Cup final due to suspension, though he did play in the 2012 final, and has dreamed of winning the the title with Athletic his entire life.
