Joseba Etxeberria “There Are Ten Games Left And We Must Improve”
Bilbao Athletic’s winless streak was extended to four games over the weekend as Joseba Etxeberria’s side only managed a 3-3 draw with Real Unión. Despite being in complete control throughout the first half, the Kumeak conceded three goals after the break to drop two important points at Lezama.
“If you aren’t intense at this level, if you aren’t brave in disputes and aren’t focused, any team can hurt you,” Etxeberria said after the match. The Mister went on to explain that the team must be better in the matches ahead to qualify for the promotional playoffs.
“There are ten games left and we must improve. These are the last ten games of truth where you can really see yourself. We’re in a good situation, although it’s hard for anyone to win, except for Logroñés. There is a lot of equality in this group and those from below can win at any field.”
Bilbao Athletic are currently tied for second on 49 points with 10 matches remaining on the schedule. The final stretch of the season will be grueling as the next two weeks will see the Kumeak travel to 4th place Real Valladolid B then to leaders Logroñés. Etxeberria’s team will also host 5th place Real Sociedad at Lezama in the penultimate game of the campaign. With 30 points left to play for the race for the top four will be intense.
